Naked Kitchen – Branding & Packaging Design
Pickle Studio’s Design Brief: Lifelong friends with a shared passion for vegetarian food, Johnny and Hester, developed a range of gluten free, vegan, healthy, delicious foods. They started off hand rolling falafels in their commercial kitchen in Bristol, using traditional recipes with the addition of popular fruits and vegetables – adding their own special twists. The products proved hugely popular, selling in an ever increasing number of outlets. With a growing demand for their products, they asked Pickle to them create a strong, recognisable brand and packaging that would be adaptable across both their existing products and future plans.
Stage 1 - Design Springboards
Pickle Studio started the project by identifying the personality of the brand and key descriptive words that needed to be captured in our designs. We researched and collected visual reference of graphic designs, examples of typographic styles and colour ideas. We call these ‘design springboards’. We discussed the boards with the clients, helping us to identify the direction in which they would like us to take the branding and packaging designs.
Design Concept 1
Having discussed the design springboards with Johnny and Hester, we established the design direction to take… The branding and packaging needed to be contemporary, colourful, simple and communicate the essence ‘It’s All Good’.
Pickle Studio produced design concepts within this arena, exploring different approaches to the branding – size, style and colour. Our concepts incorporated supporting graphic elements and demonstrated different information arrangement and hierarchy.
Design Concept 2

Design Development
Pickle Studio evolved the preferred design concept. Johnny and Hester decided to move from a label to a sleeve packaging format – we developed our designs to accommodate this. We also investigated background colours and textures, as well as incorporating nutritional information panels within the design.
We sourced imagery and developed a colour palette for all flavours within the range, to create differentiation across the products.
Final Design and Artwork
Pickle Studio developed the preferred design across all pack faces. When a final design was chosen and all pack information confirmed, we created digital artwork and liaised with the printer.
We created 3D pack images which can be used for marketing purposes – in leaflets and on the website.
Design Translation
Pickle Studio used the brand assets that we created to produce designs for stationery, social media, leaflets and web design.
